What is a TumbleBook?

TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

Do I need special software to view TumbleBooks?

All you need is the Flash plug-in which is preloaded on most computers. If you are unable to view the TumbleBooks, you can download the plug-in for FREE at www.macromedia.com/downloads.

What is Available to me in the Tumblebook Library?

Story Books:
The TumbleBook Library has a selection of children's favorite story books. Old time favorites such as "The Paper Bag Princess" by Robert Munch come to life in an educational and interactive way. Other titles include "Miss Malarkey Doesn't Live in Room 10", "One Duck Stuck" and "Tops and Bottoms". Kids can also see their favorite fairy tales such as "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Old Mother Hubbard" come to life.

Life Learning:
Through the TumbleBook Library you can complement and broaden the scope of many themes taught in your classroom. Several of the books cover various holidays and celebrations. In the multi-cultural classrooms, these books can be used to raise awareness of different cultures. Several of the books are "issue related" books. "No Nuts for me" is an example of an issue related book that is widely used in classrooms across North America and is endorsed by leading professionals. Other books in this collection deal with volunteering, aging grandparents, asthma and cultural tolerance. Life Learning also includes non-fiction books like "Champion: The Story of Muhammad Ali" and "Coming Home - a story about Josh Gibson".

Language Learning:
The Language Learning Section comes with a growing selection of books in Spanish and French. Many are bilingual titles which allows the user to read the book in 2 languages.

Chapter Books/YA Novels:
Now older students can read the growing collection of children's classics like Black Beauty, Alice in Wonderland and Anne of Green Gables. Our TumbleReadable format, with its innovative text size slider which allows the reader to adjust to the text size to what is right for them, makes reading online fun and accessible.

TumbleBookLibrary En Espanol:
The language drop down menu now allows you to view the entire website in Spanish. Instruction, news and descriptions of books are all in Spanish. Perfect for ESL, Bilingual, and Spanish programs.

The TumbleBook Library also includes a collection of resources to aid teachers and enrich the learning experience. These resources come in the form of:

A collection of online puzzles using a picture from the book.

A collection of concentration games, reinforcing concepts from the book.

TumbleQuizzes use 5 multiple choice questions to test reading and comprehension in a fun way. The quiz tracks the number of right and wrong answers and produces a report at the end. A round of applause is given to users with a score of 4/5 and 5/5.
